Alfred Cyril Ewing (11 May 1899 - 14 May 1973)

Ewing, a British realist philosopher was a sympathetic critic of idealism.

In 1963, encyclopedist Dr. Paul_Edwards described Ewing:

A reader in Moral Science in the University of Cambridge, Ewing is one of the leading contemporary defenders of Rationalism. He has written numerous articles in philosophical journals including several which criticize the key-doctrines of logical positivism. He is the author of The Morality of Punishment (1929), Idealism: A Critical Survey (1934), The Individual, The State, and World Government (1947), The Definition of Good (1947), and The fundamental Questions of Philosophy (1951). He is also the editor of The Idealist Tradition - From Berkeley to Blanshard, the first volume in "The Library of Philosophical Movements." Ewing is a Fellow of the British Academy.
